a) Avoid sitting or standing for a long duration- If you are an office-goer or a teacher who needs to stand or sit for a long period of time, you are at risk of developing varicose veins.
This is because when you sit or stand for a prolonged period of time, it becomes hard for the blood to travel against gravity and hence it causes pain in the veins and can make your ankles and feet swollen.
In order to avoid this pain, take breaks while you are working and try to walk or just free your muscles for a while as moving around will decrease the venous pressure and improve your blood circulation.
b) Wear compression stockings- Over time, medical researchers and doctors have prescribed compression socks as the best choice for varicose veins. Compression stockings or socks can be highly beneficial for varicose veins.
The pressure that builds on the ankles and legs compresses the surface arteries and veins and further helps the vein valves to work properly. This process helps in the proper flow of blood back to your heart without any obstacles.
c) Don't wear tight clothes- Try to wear non-restrictive, loose-fitting clothes to increase breathability and avoid restriction in blood flow.
Wearing loose-fitting garments and flats instead of heels improves the circulation of blood in the body and hence helps in avoiding the rise of varicose veins.
d) Exercise on a daily basis- When you have a habit of exercising on a daily basis you tend to push blood to the heart and this is really helpful as the muscles work against gravity preventing the occurrence of varicose veins. Yoga, walking, and stretching are all beneficial modes of exercise that help to keep your muscles toned.
e) Lead a healthy lifestyle- It is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle. If you are obese and you don't lose weight, your obesity might add more pressure to your legs causing varicose veins. So try to maintain a proper diet, work out regularly and avoid junk food.
